On May 19th, Californians sent a clear message: More taxes and more spending are NOT the answer to our fiscal problems. Reducing spending must be the primary element of any solution, not more taxes and more debt.
Something must be done to force legislators and the Governor to work to find these wasteful programs and eliminate them. Some states have imposed a cap on spending increases to a formula that allows for growth in the budget based on the growth of population plus inflation adjustments. This “population + inflation” model would fix the size of government and prevent it from growing larger than it currently is, forcing lawmakers to offer spending cuts to finance each new program they create.
